Mission

texas.gif (6994 bytes)

Pathology is the study of disease.  The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPALM) has a tripartite mission of teaching, service and research in the field of pathology.  Our research gains relevance from its association with clinical medicine and medicine is made exciting by the promise of research.  The two together provide an optimal environment for teaching.

TEACHING:  To train scholarly physicians and scientists who will lead the professions in meeting challenges in medicine through a lifelong commitment of learning.

SERVICE:  To practice pathology and laboratory medicine at a level of quality that optimally benefits our patients and provides role models of scholarly practitioners.

RESEARCH: To generate new knowledge that contributes to progress in medicine and enriches the training of students.
