Passwords

Passwords are private codes which indicate to our system that you are an authorized user. For DPALM you will have two passwords assigned by the computer staff (three if you use the Departmental Dial-up lines). One password is for your e-mail, and the other allows you to access network resources such as printers and network drives. Do not share your passwords with anyone. Sharing passwords sacrifices the integrity of the entire network and is illegal. Anyone sharing passwords will be subject to disciplinary action. Users should not ask for other users' passwords, even on a temporary basis. If access to someone else's files is needed, please contact the computer staff.

Note: Passwords for CERNER, NETTEX, and other university provided services are not administered by DPALM staff.

E-mail Password

DPALM uses the Eudora e-mail program. To change your E-mail password, follow these steps:
  1. Double click the Eudora icon to open the program.
  2. When Eudora opens click the word "Special".
  3. Now select "Change password" from the bottom of the list that appeared.
  4. Type in your current password and then type in your new password.

Your new password must be at least 6 characters long. The password is case sensitive so if you use capital letters in your password they must always be used to access your e-mail.

If you have forgotten your e-mail password, you must contact the computer staff to obtain a new one.

Network Password

Your network password allows you to login to the PATHOLOGY domain. Logging in to the network (also called "logging in to the domain") allows you to take advantage of certain resources that are available to DPALM staff, such as printers and network drives.

To change your network password in Windows 3.11, follow these steps:

  1. Double click on the "Main" group icon on the Windows desktop
  2. When the "Main " window opens, click on the "Control Panel" icon
  3. Within the Control Panel, double click on the "Network" icon
  4. Now under "Option" click "Startup" not "Password"
  5. Now select "Set Password"
  6. Click the mouse in the "Old Password" field and type in your current password - DO NOT HIT [ENTER]
  7. Click the mouse in the "New Password" field and type in what you want your new password to be - DO NOT HIT [ENTER]
  8. Retype the new password in the field "Confirm New Password"
  9. Now click "OK"

To change your network password in Windows NT, follow these steps:

  1. Hit Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the Windows NT security window.
  2. Select "Change Password"
  3. Enter your old password, then your new password twice, using the TAB key to move between the fields.
  4. Click "OK" when you are done.

Windows will tell you that your password has been changed successfully. If the message tells you that your password was not changed, repeat the process, making sure that CAPS LOCK is off and type in your old password correctly. The domain password must be at least six characters long and, like the e-mail password, is case sensitive.
