Lasergraphics Digital Film Recorder (LFR) (Slide Printer)
Located in the User's Room, the LFR has the capability of producing high quality
photographic slides of computer generated presentations, digitized images, and
text slides, among other things.
Features and Suggestions
- - 20-40 second per slide processing time at 4,000 lines of resolution
- - 36 exposure per roll maximum
- - uses Ektachrome color reversal (slide) film at ISO 100 for ideal exposure
- - print from Powerpoint for presentation/text slides
- - print from Corel Draw or Adobe Photoshop for image slides
- - ALWAYS check printing options: printer, background, copies, film type, etc.
Warming Up
The Lasergraphics LFR Mark III needs to be warmed up in order to get the correct color exposure on the film. If you are turning the LFR power on let it warm for 20 minutes before you begin exposing the film.
Loading Film
Close the film back. You should hear a winding noise as the film is loaded into
the take-up spool first. The camera back LED will display the number of exposures available.
Printing
Log into the PC attached to the LFR. The WinRascol application which controls the LFR should automatically start and appear on the task bar as illustrated below.

If it does not appear in the taskbar, you can open it by double clicking on the desktop icon or by going to Start: Programs: WinRascol32: WinRascol32.
Click on WinRascol and be sure that there is nothing in the queue. If there are slides left in the queue from a previous user delete them before proceeding.
Open your presentation in the program in which it was created (e.g., Powerpoint). Do File: Page Setup. Be sure that the page size is set for 35mm slides as illustrated below.

Do File: Print. Make sure that the LFR is selected as the printer, and that Print what: says Slides. Click on printer properties, then the Advanced button.
The Advanced Properties should have the correct defaults, as illustrated below, but it is a good idea to make sure that the page size is set to LFR Powerpoint 7.5x11.25, and that the film type is Kodak Elite Chrome 100 (or whatever film type you are using).

Click OK to everything and Powerpoint will begin sending slides to the queue. When Powerpoint has finished sending the slides to the queue you can close Powerpoint.
You may monitor the progress of the film exposure in the WinRascol application. It takes about one minute per slide. While the film is being exposed you can lock the screen (press CTRL-ALT-DEL, choose Lock Workstation) to prevent anyone from interfering with it. Also cover the monitor with the sign that reads "Film printing in progress." Please do not leave it unattended for long periods of time because there is a lot of demand for the LFR.
Unloading Film
When your film exposure is completed, unload the film by depressing the rewind button (see Loading Film, 1st image) on the camera back
for a couple seconds until the unit begins making a winding noise. Once the noise
stops, remove the film canister from the camera back.
Be sure to log off of the PC before you leave.
