Glossary of Terms
- AC - Alternating Current
- A/D - Analog to Digital
- Analog - a current or voltage based signal (as opposed to numbers - digital) representing
a a unit of sound, pixel, etc.
- Aspect Ratio - Horizontal dimension relative to verticle dimension
- Bandwidth - signal transmission capacity with regard to how much information can be moved
per unit of time
- BNC - type of connection involving a locking mount as opposed to screw-type;
the actual letters themselves is under debate
- Chroma - hue and saturation; color characteristics not related to intensity of lumination
- Color Bar - a color test pattern consisting of yellow, cyan, green, magenta, red, and blue;
proper chroma settings can be determined by this pattern
- CRT - Cathode Ray Tube; an electronic vacuum tube
- CVM- Color Video Monitor (Sony PVM-1943MD)
- floppy - (see still video floppy), disk
- Ikegami - 3 tube stationary video camera (gross room)
- light diffuser - on the Nikon, push/pull pin located on right side of microscope
- live image - actual displayed image as opposed to prerecorded
- Optiphot 2 - Nikon microscope
- Optronics - single chip stationary video camera (HEO & student labs)
- PAX - Picture Archival Transmission
- RGB - Red, Green, Blue: describes image transmission signal
- S-VHS - high resolution video recording format
- Sony - 3 CCD (chip) stationary video camera (gross room & mobile)
- still video floppy - an image storage medium capable of holding 50 standard images or 25 hi-res images
- SVR - Still Video Recorder (MVR-5300)
- SVP - Still Video Player (Panasonic AGES-100)
- SVS - Still Video System
- track counter - located on SVR: designates number of images on disk or number of present image
- track - number corresponding to recorded image; successive value when in field mode / odd or
even values when in frame mode
- VCU - Video Camera Unit (CCU) [Sony, Ikegami, Optronics, JVC)
