Surgical Biopsies
Our board-certified pathologists interact directly with the referring physician and provide rapid one business day turnaround on all uncomplicated surgical biopsies. Special stains, immunohisto-chemistry and other diagnostic studies are available as needed. Verbal reports are given on a rush basis and for unexpected or malignant results.

Cervical Pap Smears
We provide state-of-the-art gynecological cytology, including conventional pap tests and the latest in liquid-based Thin Prep® smears. These tests can be correlated with surgical biopsies. Any positive, inconclusive or unexpected diagnoses are communicated immediately to the referring physician. Reflex HPV testing and gonococcal and chlamydia testing are available from the original Thin Prep® vial.

Fine Needle Aspirations
Fine needle aspiration biopsies, including breast and thyroid, can be performed by UT Pathologists in our laboratory. Prepared slides and fluids aspirated by referring clinicians are also accepted.

Laboratory Certification
The Anatomic Pathology Laboratory of the UT-Houston Medical School is certified by CLIA, accredited by the College of American Pathologists, and approved by Medicare and Medicaid.
